| Toymaker:
Nomura |
 |
|

|
Nomura,
also known at T.N (Toys Nomura), was one of the biggest and
most prolific of all postwar Japanese toy makers. Based in Tokyo,
Nomura is believed to have built toys from the late 1940s through
the 1970s. Though their current disposition is unknown, it is
believed Nomura transformed itself into a manufacturer of other
subject matter. Nomura is famous for their 17-inch long "proportionally-challenged"
1965-66 Mustang fastbacks. Nomura produced several versions
of this car, some of which are shown below. Nomura Mustangs
are among the most sought after and prized Mustang tin toys
to collectors. |

Model:
Nomura
Owner Driving Mustang
Power:
Battery
Length:
17 inches
Description:
This
toy is arguably the rarest and most prized of the Mustang
tin toy cars. The "Owner Driving Mustang"
is identical to its friction-powered look-alike, except
that this car is powered by an electric motor. The "owner"
controls the car using a steering
console that straps to one's waist using the vinyl
belt. A gear shift lever on the console makes the car
go forward, reverse or stop, while the plastic steering
wheel controls a small
wheel underneath the car for turning the Mustang
right or left.

Model:
Nomura
Mustang Rally Car
Power:
Friction
Length:
17
inches
Description:
One of the hardest to find Nomura fastbacks is the Rally
Car. It features colorful lithography on the car's exterior
and the same interior as the blue fastbacks, right down
to the archer's bow . . . I suppose it could come in
handy for taking out a competitor's tire!
